The IT professional and his fourteen -year -old son in Calcuttus, West Bengal, reportedly refused a room at a hotel in sector 44 Noids and their reservations were abolished because they were Bengal, according to the Times of India.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Meera Eternity Hotel.
A boy, a skater, traveled with his father to participate in skating in Noida.
According to the TOI quoting IT professional, his reservation, made through OYO for two nights, the receptionist was canceled, allegedly stating that the local police asked hotels not to allow guests from Bangladesh, Pandjab or Jammu & Kashmir to 15 August for security.
“I told them we were from West Bengal, not Bangladesh.
His father said he said several calls on Oyo before the executive for customer care finally answered and assured him that the amount would be returned within 7-10 days. “I had no choice but to check for another hotel in sector 49, far from the arena,” he said, adding that he originally booked the hotel sector 44 for its proximity to the ice rink, where the registration was to start early on Wednesday.
Oyo apologized for the incident and said the hotel, Meera Eternity, was removed from his platform on the same day.
He also added an internal question.
“Oyo has not received or issued any hotel directive to impose such restrictions. We do not support any form of discrimination,” Oyo said in his statement to Toi.
Noida DCP Yamuna Prasad said there was no official instructions from the Police of Noida, which directed hotels to deny the entry of people from Bengal or any other state. “Hotels are said to check documents about the ID and visa of people from Bangladesh, but there is no directive that would ban even Bangladesh’s inhabitants if they have proper documents,” said Pig.
