Building a startup is not easy and hiring a bad person can be a costly mistake. Arshia Kaur, the founder of beauty cosmetic brand, has become a viral on Instagram after sharing a shocking hiring experience that left her briefly in time, money and trust.
In a series of videos Kaur, Kaur told how her company hired a candidate for “perfect paper” for the marketing manager in November 2024. The applicant seemed to be an ideal-a lot of experience in scaling, electronic trading, advertising campaign and growth. He even went through the team through what looked like the backend of his previous work.
“He looked amazing on paper … Everything looked very legitimate,” Kaur said.
But within a few weeks of the connection, things began to disintegrate. The new lease tried to communicate with a team or leadership, failed to perform the assigned tasks and interpret work on other employees- including Kaur. Despite more discussions and warning, there was no improvement. He was only fired for two and a half months to work.
A real shock came later. Kaur, curious about the mismatch between his alleged past successes and his current performance, re-checked his documents- and realized that the whole CV was made. Its payments were created on Microsoft Excel, complemented by impossible details such as “31 working days” per month. There were no corporate stamps or signature.
“It was all fake. We got completely cheated,” Kaur said, showing screen images in her post on Instagram.
The entrepreneur said the incident was a severe lesson in hiring care. “When you are bootstrapy, every penny depends on every penny.
Since then, her story has triggered a debate among small enterprises and jobseekers, and many called it awakening for stricter background checks in the recruitment process.
