Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta urged the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to consider the establishment of a special economic zone (DCSEZ) of the data center (DCSEZ) with policy and institutional support to attract private investments.
On Tuesday, who met with the secretary of Meita S. Kršhnan in Nový Delhi, the deputy discussed the potential of the mangalur as a center for hosting large data centers and the location of the city as a key player in the Indian digital infrastructure. “Globally, data centers are now considered to be critical infrastructure that is necessary for everything from AI and cloud computing to financial systems and national security. Mangalur can be a vital node in the Indian regionalized data spine,” Captain Chowta said.
The MP emphasized the strategic advantages of the mangalur – the coastal position with low seismic risk, the abundant water resources and the proximity of the underwater internet cable routes – which has created an ideal place to establish a cable landing station. Such an infrastructure, would say, improve latency and speed of the Internet in the region and at the same time significantly increase Indian data capacity and security.
India AI Mission
The deputy also asked to support Meita in the introduction of initiatives in the Indian AI mission to the mangalur, including the possibility to organize hackathons AI to identify and educate local talents. The discussion also covered the wider possibilities of the development of the city and the surrounding region at a prosperous and innovation center, create jobs, stimulate production associated with data infrastructure and increase export profits through the new port of Mangalore.
Captain Chowta said that the initiative is part of his continuing efforts to place the mangalur as a strategic digital and technology center in accordance with national objectives.
“In accordance with the development of IT over Bengalur and building our region as a Silicon Beach, I shared my vision for the mangalura as a hub for data centers and discussed that it brings initiatives in India AI for the city that contributes to PM Shri Narendra Modi Viiksi Bharat.
