One in five unreserved train tickets booked through the RailOne app in Thiruvananthapuram

Southern Railway’s Thiruvananthapuram division, which is high on e-literacy, has achieved a major milestone in digital ticketing, with one in five unreserved tickets now taken by passengers through the RailOne mobile app.

The division has emerged as one of the leading railway divisions within Southern Railways in promoting the adoption of the unified digital platform of Indian Railways. RailOne’s utilization of Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) bookings in the division has averaged 20% of total UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) tickets, with the figure often crossing 25% during weekends, demonstrating the growing acceptance of digital ticketing among passengers, according to Southern Railway officials.

This achievement is also part of the result of frequent awareness and information efforts made at railway stations and trains across the division by the railway authorities. RailOne serves as an integrated digital platform of Indian Railways, providing passengers with access to multiple services through a single app.

In addition to reserved and unreserved tickets, the app allows users to easily access; Information about train running and timetables, PNR status, coach position as well as ordering food, availing Rail Madad complaint handling services and availing several other passenger centric facilities. Passengers who book unreserved tickets through RailOne also enjoy a 3% fare discount, making RailOne convenient and economical.

The app allows passengers to book unreserved tickets before reaching the station, avoiding queues at ticket counters and saving valuable travel time. Tickets can also be collected via RailOne at stations by scanning the station-specific QR codes displayed on the premises, allowing quick selection of departure station and hassle-free ticket booking.

To promote digital adoption, the division also conducted extensive awareness campaigns through passenger programmes, live demonstrations, public announcements, distribution of information materials and direct involvement of railway staff and NSS student volunteers.

The division also saw a substantial increase in the use of Automated Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs). The share of tickets issued through ATVM has increased by 10 percentage points in the last three months to reach almost 50% of total UTS ticket bookings, reducing reliance on ticket counters.

“RailOne’s increasing adoption reflects passengers’ growing preference for convenient, contactless and integrated digital services. Thiruvananthapuram Division will continue to support technology-driven solutions that enhance the overall travel experience while making rail services more accessible and efficient,” said Nithin Norbert, Senior Division Commercial Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division.
