The former Indian cricket Aakash Chopra said that Virt Kohli and Rohit Sharma should not leave the test cricket. He believes that it would be better to leave the one-day international (ODIS) for the duo, because playing only 50-over format will give them a very small match. At the T20 International, the legendary Indian couple retired after led India to victory at the T20 World Cup in June 2024, which helped the team to end the eleven ICC Trophy.
After the disappointment of the Australia Tour, both players from the test cricket resigned before Recently closed the England series. Chopra feels that the decision could harm their rhythm and readiness for international cricket.
“The truth is that they said goodbye to the wrong format. After winning the T20 World Cup, the T20 left the T20, but the story could be different if they continued to play and say goodbye to ODI. India played only six ODIs in 12 months before the Champions trophies,” Chopra told YouTube.
Chopra is of the opinion that being part of the test cricket keeps the player in continuous counting for selection and keeps the body involved in a competitive cricket for a longer period of time. “There is a possibility that you could only play six tests per year, but even if it’s only six tests, it’s 30 days of cricket. If only six ODIs are played, it’s only six days of cricket for a certain period of time.
Chopra also asked how Kohli and Rohit would keep ready and motivated and noted that they were unlikely to appear in a home first -class cricket. “The series of three matches will get in seven to eight days. Then the next one would be after three months. The gaps are simply incredibly huge and you will not play first -class cricket between them. It is true that if they continued playing the test cricket and left ODI, they would remain much easier in the groove,” he explained.
With the ODI World Cup 2027 still far, cricket-over-COMMENTATOR believes that Kohli and Rohit on the side are not guaranteed. He stressed, however, that their choice should not depend on the performance of Vijay Hazare Trophy, as some reports suggest.
