Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that a program to plant 15 lakh saplings will be launched in the city on June 27 to mark the birth anniversary of the founder of Bengaluru, Kempe Gowda.
Speaking to mediapersons after planting a sapling at the Vidhana Soudha premises on June 5 on the occasion of World Environment Day, Mr. Shivakumar said that the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) would implement the programme.
He stressed the importance of increasing green cover and said that everyone should try to plant at least one sapling every year.
He said Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who was in Bengaluru on Friday, June 5, also planted a sapling at the Kempe Gowda International Airport premises.
