Woman, girlfriend arrested for husband’s murder in Bengaluru
Bengaluru police have arrested a 21-year-old woman and her boyfriend for allegedly murdering her husband and disposing of his body to destroy evidence.
The accused have been identified as Archana Chauhan (21), a native of Uttar Pradesh, and her friend Parul Pal, a security guard from Tripura. The deceased has been identified as Abhijith Pandit.
According to the police, the incident took place on May 27. Pal and his associates allegedly strangled Pandit with a rope while they were at a party. They later disposed of the body near a lake at Linganahalli in Hesaraghatta. Archana allegedly assisted Pal in the crime.
The next day, Archana filed a missing person’s complaint at the Rajanakunte police station. Despite persistent efforts, the police failed to get any leads and subsequently interrogated Archan and Pal as all three were cooperating.
The investigating officer of the case told The Hindu that both the accused reacted suspiciously and confessed to the crime after intensive interrogation. Based on their statements, the police exhumed the body from the place of deposition.
“Archana and Abhijith got married three years ago and together with Pal worked as watchmen at Ittagallapura in Rajanakunta. He became suspicious of Archana and Pal as they spent a considerable amount of time together,” the officer said. “He confronted Archana and asked her not to talk to Pal, which angered her. She informed Pal, after which he allegedly planned and carried out Pandit’s murder,” he added.
