A Sudanese national who was placed in isolation at the Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad after being found with fever at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad has tested negative for Ebola, Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha confirmed on Friday (June 5).
The samples were sent to the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), which confirmed that the test result was negative for Ebola. “We will now inform the Superintending Officer about the negative test result. The officer will decide on the next course of action, including releasing the patient from isolation,” said Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Vani.
Meanwhile, the test report of another Sudanese national, aged in his 20s, who was admitted to Gandhi Hospital on Thursday evening after contracting fever in quarantine, is still awaited. Patient samples were also sent to the CCMB.
“The surveillance measures remain in place as per the instructions of the Government of India. Medical screening of international passengers is being conducted at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to identify passengers showing symptoms of concern,” the minister added.
Passengers who are found to be symptomatic during screening are shifted to an isolation ward set up at Gandhi Hospital, where a clinical assessment is carried out and samples are taken for laboratory testing. Asymptomatic individuals are advised to remain in home isolation and are monitored for 21 days as a precaution.
