New Delhi: The Minister of the Union for oil and natural gas Hardeep Singh Puri stressed Indian steps in clean energy and home production on Friday on Friday, and acknowledged that the country was still strongly relying on imports to meet its growing energy needs.
“We already have 113 plants for compressed biogas (CBG) and another 73 in construction,” he said about the progress of bioenergy and natural gas.
“If you look at the models of cars coming to the market, many new ones are compatible with CNG. So this is a successful story,” the Minister told reporters on the 360 summit pioneering biofuels in the capital.
The Minister pointed to the distribution of Indian liquefied oil gas (LPG) as another example of progress in access to energy.
“We are running against all statistics today,” he said. “We have 33.5 connections LPG Crore in the ground, including 10.5 crore under Ujjwala Yojana, but we still import about 60 percent of our LPG.”
In recognition of dependence on imports of Puri Puri, he confirmed that the country is taking decisive steps to increase domestic production.
“Our refineries will produce more. We will do more in survey and production (E&P),” he said.
Regarding natural gas, Minister Puri noted that domestic production witnessed healthy growth.
“Yes, our production is rising 18 percent a year, but we still import about 50 percent,” he said.
Minister Puri emphasized the country’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat or independent India.
“Earth like India, which has these challenges, moves towards self -sufficiency, but it will take time,” he said. “Meanwhile, we will import, increase our production and have already diversified our import sources.”
India is the third largest energy consumer in the world with a demand of about 5.4 million barrels of oil a day.
India now imports 80 % of oil and 50 % of its natural gas needs. India now imports oil and gas from as many countries as possible, now about 40 countries to satisfy its demand.
