Sunil Gavaskar stops speech to answer wife’s call, delights Mumbai crowd

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has captured the internet’s affection after a video of his spontaneous ‘wife-paaglu’ moment went viral across social media platforms. The former India captain paused his keynote address in the middle of the event to answer a phone call from his wife Marshneil, prompting widespread amusement on the internet.

A similar incident took place in Mumbai during a special meeting organized by the Rotary Club at Mumbai Airport. Gavaskar was present as the chief guest to celebrate a major milestone of the ‘Gift of Life’ initiative, which provided free and life-saving heart surgeries to around 850 underprivileged children.

While talking to participants at the Rotary Service Center on Juhu Tara Road, the batting icon’s phone started ringing on the dais. He immediately recognized the caller, stopped his speech, politely apologized to the crowd and took the call right on stage before offering a witty explanation.

In addition to the viral comedy, the event itself was deeply emotional. The charity project is doing incredible work helping hundreds of families cope with complex congenital heart defects. Gavaskar spent a lot of time hanging out with the young survivors and their parents, calling the courageous young children the “real heroes” of the day.
