Chapters on the Life and Sacrifices of the Late Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Brigadier Mohammad Usman, and Major Somnath Sharma HAVE ADDED TO SYLLABUS IN THE CURRENT ACADEMIC Year for Class 8 (Urdu), And Class 8 National Council of Educational Research and Training (Ncert), The Union of the Ministers of Defense (MOD) Said on Thursday (August 7, 2025).
The newly introduced chapters aim to provide students with inspiring narration of courage and duty. The field marshal Sam Manekshaw, the first Indian officer to be granted the rank of field marshal, is remembered for his exceptional leadership and strategic reverse. Brigadier Mohammad Usman and Major Somnath Sharma, the posthumous recipients of Mahavir Chakra and Param Chakra virus, laid their lives on the nation and remained symbols of the highest victim, Mod said.
As part of the effort to establish a national war memorial as a prominent national monument, the Mod joined the Ministry of Education of the Union and Ncert in order to integrate the memorial and references to it, the school curriculum, the Ministry of Defense said.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the National Memorial to Nation 25. February 2019. It is located in the iconic central Vista ‘C’ Hexagon, India Gate, New Delhi, the memorial was established to taste patriotism, high moral values, victim, national spirit and belong to all citizens.
Through these stories and their integration into the curriculum, students would not only gain insight into Indian military history, but also absorb important life lessons about resistance, empathy, emotional intelligence and the importance of contributing to the building of the nation, Mod said.
