United Airlines, United Airlines, faced the main disturbance on Wednesday, August 6, after the technological problem forced a temporary ground stop at multiple airports in the US and caused a widespread delay throughout its network. The problem has been solved since then, the airline has confirmed, although residual delays are expected.
“Although we expect residual delay, our team is trying to restore our normal operations,” United said in his statement late Wednesday.
Ground stops on key centers
The defect caused the US Federal Air Administration (FAA) to issue ground stops for United flights at several main centers, including Newark, Denver, Houston and Chicago.
According to United, this problem stemmed from its unified system, which manages key flight information. This data feeds on other key systems, including those responsible for calculating weight and balance and tracking flights.
1,000+ flights delayed
From 22:25 ET on Wednesday, the FlightWare flight has announced that 1,038 United Flight-ASI 34% of its daily schedule was delayed.
FAA acknowledged the technical problem and stated that it provided support to help clean up the pending items. US Transport Minister Sean Duffy confirmed that the problem was isolated on United and did not affect the wider air traffic control system.
