Jammu & Kashmir’s home department on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) announced 25 books, many prominent writers such as Ag Nooras, Sumantra Bose, Arundhati Roy and Ayesha JALAL, as a “forfeiture for promoting false narration and Art Nouveau” in J&K.
The home department, which falls under Lieutenant J&K, caused section 98 Bhartiya Nagarik Surraksha Sanhita 2023 to categorize 25 books as “forfeited”. Their circulation will be stopped.
“It has been found that the identified 25 books are excited by Art Nouveau and threatening the sovereignty and integrity of India, attracting the provisions of sections 152, 196 and 197 Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023,” the home department said.
‘Available evidence based on investigation and trustworthy intelligence suggests that a significant driver of violence and terrorism for the participation of youth was the systematic spread of false stories and Art Nouveau literature according to his persistent internal circulation, often disguised as historical or political Terrorism, “he read,” he read.

He said that this literature would deeply affect the psyche of youth by promoting culture of complaints, victims and terrorist heroism. “Some of the means that this literature contributed to the radicalization of youth in J&K includes distortion of historical facts, celebrating terrorists, spoiling of security forces, religious radicalization, supporting theft, path to violence and terrorism, etc.,” she said. “
Books declared “forfeited” include independent Kashmir by Christopher Snedden; Kashmir dispute 1947-2012 by AG Noorani; Kashmir on Cross Roads (inside the 21st century conflict) by Sumantra Bose; Kashmir and the future of South Asia by Ayesha JALAL and SUGATA BOSE; Azadi from Arundhati Roy; The confrontation of the terrorism of the author Stephen P. Cohen, among other things.
There were also two books of Islamic scholars, Imam Hasan Al-Bana and Moulan Wise.
