Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin on Friday (June 5, 2026) formally accepted the resignation of former Tamil Nadu party president K. Annamalai from the primary membership of the party.
“Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin has accepted the resignation tendered by former Tamil Nadu State President K. Annamalai from the party’s primary membership,” the BJP said in a press release.
The development comes three days after Mr Annamalai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mr Nabin and party national general secretary BL Santhosh and submitted his resignation letter to the party leadership on June 2. He is likely to announce a new political movement soon.
Meanwhile, Mr. Annamalai announced on Thursday (June 3) that he will share his thoughts (on his future political direction) via social media on Friday (June 5) at 12 noon.
The former Karnataka cadre IPS officer joined the BJP in August 2020 and headed the Tamil Nadu BJP unit from 16 July 2021 to 11 April 2025. He was later replaced by Nainar Nagenthran. Mr. Annamalai unsuccessfully contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Aravakurichi and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Coimbatore. He did not run in the recent parliamentary elections.
