Minister for Agriculture and Farmers on Monday MRK Panneerselvam laid the foundation stone for restoring a 128 -year -old collector building in Cuddalore.
The restoration work is engaged in the construction center and protective division of the Public Work Department for the price of 16.20 crore. The 128 -year -old structure of red bricks, which was extended by 44,960 square feet, suffered damage due to aging, especially the roof of Madras and walls. The preliminary evaluation revealed that the condition of the building was stable.
According to the official, the construction of a building that began in 1895 was completed in 1897. Initially the building operated as a collector’s office of the former South Arcot district (Cuddalore, Villupuram and Kallakurichi districts) from 1897 to 1993.
After the Cuddalore district was divided from South Arcot in 1993, the building served as the Office of the District Collector Cuddalore by 2020. The area now houses the District Treasury Office, District Forest Office, Cuddalore Museum and District Record Center.
The scope of work includes re -establishment of the ceiling, wall columns and arches with lime mortar, damaged wooden doors damaged by teak with wooden door closures and blinds for windows and roofs Madras terrace on all floors. The work also includes the removal of the growth of vegetation on the building, in addition to providing the physiological solution of stone columns and brick walls.
The Minister also laid the basis for improving the work to be made on the basis of Manjakuppam Grounds in Cuddalore at estimated cost of 14.15 crore. Work, include the construction of 77 shops, a congress center and a pedestrian track.
The collector Sibi Adehithy Senthil Kumar and officials of various line departments were present.
