Institute for climate change studies (ICC) based in Kottayam has developed a platform with artificial intelligence (AI) called “Eye in the Sky” ICCS Nowcasting system to provide real -time precipitation prognosis.
According to an official statement on Tuesday, the system can accurately predict rainfall up to two hours in advance and offer hyper-blocked knowledge.
The aim of the platform is to help the communities prepare for sudden and intense downpours. It will also serve as a critical tool for agencies such as the Office of Disaster Management, and will provide timely alerts of heavy rainfall and potential landslides.
Mobile applications develop to make these updates easily accessible to the public.
ICCS will present this project on August 7 at the Summit for Research and Development, organized by the State Council for Science, Technology and the Environment (KSCSE) in Thiruvananthapurama.
ICC, acting under KSCste, research the impact of climate change in various industries in Kerala, including the environment, the river basin and coastal areas. The Institute also plans to cooperate with Kannur University on the development of a mini-high meteorological station with a memorandum of understanding (MO), which will soon be signed, said K. Rajendran, Director of ICCS.
