The Reddit viral contribution ruled by discussions about toxic workplaces after the Indian manager allegedly asked employees to either work full 8 -hour shifts on weekends, or extend their daily hours by two hours for another three weeks.
The post contained a picture of the WhatsApp Chat screen, which was requested by a user from a friend group. “This screenshot comes from the WhatsApp Group – the last MSG is obviously since its manager that the insolence normalizes work on weekends,” the user wrote.
The picture shows one employee explaining: “I have obligations and plans that I cannot work on Saturday and Sunday, if possible, I will try to complete.” Several others repeated similar sentiments and said they would not be able to work on the weekend.

The manager responded strongly and warned that the matter would be solved with the whole team on Monday. “This will not work, we have to plan something else, on Monday I will deal with the whole team, either we have to report on Saturday and Sunday for 8 hours, or we have to extend the shift per day for the next three weeks … The boys kindly prepare your thinking and come to work on Monday.”

What do social media users say
The post launched outrage online and many criticized the manager’s behavior.
“They literally steal his work. Reject tactfully. If it doesn’t work, refuse directly. Of course he needs a new job soon,” one user wrote.
Another said, “They do it to address you out of work on work – they have no shame about it. If it’s not a real shortage, I simply ignore their calls/messages. I even had to block a colleague.”

The third user has noted the importance of documentation: “Teams are documented. When they ask such requests, they do not want evidence. If someone goes to court, they can say that it was a rogue manager. But in teams every message is recorded;
Another person advises: “Absolutely does not work at the weekend for a second if it is not your own fault that he is unable to be in the week. Very slippery slope.
Forced to work 20 unpaid hours
In a separate incident, also shared on Reddit, the software developer claimed that he was pushed for 20 hours per week, without reward.
“That’s 3 hours every day after work and my weekends disappeared completely,” the employee said, adding, “It’s unpaid, unpaid, and explained that if I want to grow here, I have to do it.”
