88,424 people in Mysuru division are yet to fill e-KYC ration card

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Rizwan Arshad on Wednesday said as many as 88,424 people in eight districts of Mysuru division are yet to complete e-KYC for their ration cards.

He directed officials to speed up the process and verify cases where it was not completed due to migration, death, marriage, resettlement or other reasons.

Addressing a departmental review meeting at the divisional level at the zilla panchayat auditorium here, Mr. Arshad said such cases should be verified, recorded with appropriate notes and forwarded to the department headquarters. Subsequently, a decision would be taken to cancel the relevant ration cards.

He said the Department of Food and Civil Supplies was responsible for providing food to the poor and serving them and urged the officials to ensure effective service delivery and improve the reputation of the department in the society.

Assessing the functioning of the Department of Legal Metrology, Mr. Arshad said that the public was not sufficiently aware of its role. He directed officials to intensify raids in places where consumers were being cheated by tampering with weights and measures.

As sugar prices suddenly rose, officials were asked to check illegal hoarding. He also directed them to take legal action in case LPG cylinders are stored beyond the prescribed limit.

Regarding vehicles carrying food ration, he said eight districts of Mysuru division have 371 vehicles of which only 176 have been equipped with GPS devices. The remaining should be fitted with GPS within 15 days and a report submitted, he ordered.

He also directed the officials to intensify raids in places where food grains were illegally stored and submit regular reports on the functioning of the department. Reports will be reviewed weekly, he said.

Deputy Controller of Legal Metrology Sarala Naidu and Joint Director of Food Department Manteswamy briefed the minister about the functioning of their respective departments.
