As part of the Aardram mission, 87 more primary health centers (PHCs) in the state will be upgraded to family health centers (FHCs), according to the health department.
A total of 750 primary health centers have become FHCs so far.
The process of converting PHCs into FHCs was carried out in phases by improving physical infrastructure and other facilities and creating additional human resources step by step.
The state now has 5,516 Janakeeya Arogya Kendras (JAKs), which were earlier known as sub-centres, and 356 urban health centers in urban areas.
FHCs will have outpatient clinics (OPs) operating from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In order to ensure the patient-friendliness of public health facilities, all FHCs were equipped with waiting rooms, OP registration counters, ramps for easy access for the disabled, examination rooms ensuring privacy, injection and changing rooms, observation rooms, nurse’s room, pharmacy, public address system, clean toilets and appropriate signage. All FHCs have been designed to accommodate the elderly/women/disabled.
Under Mission Aardram, construction work has been completed in 913 hospitals while work is ongoing in 90 hospitals. OP clinics have undergone major transformation in all 14 district/general hospitals and 26 taluk hospitals. While 102 Community Health Centers (CHCs) were created as block FHCs, 13 CHCs were strengthened and renovated.
A total of 290 public health facilities in the state have also received NQAS (National Quality Assurance Standards) certification.
