
Seven patent information centers (pic) related to educational institutions in the State were recognized on Tuesday by the State Council of Tamil Nadu for Science and Technology (TNSCST) for their role in the administration of intellectual property, steps taken to raise awareness of IPR and technological transmissions.
IPR cells on Periyar University, Salem; Women’s University in Mother Teresa, Kodaikanal; Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore; Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai; Nezru group of institutions, Coimbatore; KS Rangasamy College of Technology, Tiruchengode; And Madurai Kamaraj University was awarded the Council in the annual review of IPR cells.
Details, Dr. S. Vincent, Secretary of the Members, TNSCST, said that a total of 863 IPR applications were given in the state, an indicator that the process of technology development in the state proceeded well and supported the transformation of processing and product.
Vincent, who pointed to a specific case, stated that one submission concerned the design of the layout of the integrated district (IC), which was submitted by Dr. E. Dhiravidachelvi, IPR Cell coordinator from Mohamed Sathak Engineering College, Kilakarai. It was a larger architecture developed chip to detect retina diseases such as cataract, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy with financing from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technolgia.
The state was also led in the field of technology transmission, with the university of Tamil Nadu veterinary and animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) transmitting at least five products (vaccines, sets and sprays) for commercial production, he added.
Five applications were also submitted in various IPR cells to register geographical indications (GI). They are vandavasi korai paai (mat woven with cleft grass) College of Technology, Pollachi Thennai naar (Coconut Coir) in the group Nezru and Mugavai Kuliyadichan Sivappu Arisi (reddish brown kilakarai.
Dr. A. Raja, a representative of the patent and proposal manager, the patent office, Chennai, said that since last year there has been a significant improvement in the submission of applications for IPR.
