
The police have launched a strict security and inspection drive in Thiruvananthapuram city, targeting prominent historians.
The operation, led by District Superintendent of Police (Thiruvananthapuram City) K. Karthick, targeted habitual offenders involved in serious crimes including murder, theft, housebreaking, robbery, kidnapping, rape and narcotics-related cases. As part of the repression, 82 criminals have been subjected to preventive legal measures since February 20.
Among the accused are common criminals from various police stations across the city. From Fort police station limits, the accused include Om Prakash, Shajahan alias Pokkam Shajahan and Stephan alias Airport Dani. From Peroorkada police station limits, those booked include Ananthu, Adithyan alias Unnikuttan, Biju Kumar alias Padakki Sabu, Praful Raj, Vishnu alias Porattam Vishnu and Rajesh alias Aripodi Rajesh.
Those on the hot list at Vattiyoorkavu police station including Saikrishna have been prosecuted while from Thampanoor police station limits Nikesh Lal alias Doluk, Binoy alias Jojo, Jithin and Jishnu are among the accused. Abhilash and Sangeeth were among those arrested from Kazhakuttom police station. Shambudev of Vanchiyoor police station was also involved in the action.
Police said the drive was conducted to strengthen law and order in the city, prevent possible crimes and maintain a peaceful atmosphere during the festive season. Surveillance and checks have been intensified at bus stops, station premises, cottages, coastal areas, colonies and bars.
Mr Karthick said strong and sustained measures would continue to ensure public safety and deter crime in the capital.
