Formed by former CPI(M) leader PK Sasi, the Democratic Marxist Front (DMF) received a boost on Tuesday when a group of Trinamool Congress workers joined it. DMF leaders claimed that around 800 workers who had left the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) have now joined the front. They said the former AITC workers will attend the DMF convention to be held here on Thursday.
Efforts are also on to attract those who have either severed ties with the CPI(M) or have bitter experience of leading the party in the district. About two dozen CPI(M) workers resigned from the party recently, accusing the leadership of arrogance. DMF leaders have since initiated talks with Abdul Shukoor, a Palakkad city councilor and former CPI(M) regional committee member who was demoted following a spat with EN district secretary Suresh Babu.
DMF leaders said on Tuesday that Mr Shukoor along with several others were expected to attend the convention on Thursday.
