Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) will award graduate and post-graduate degrees to a total of 7,716 candidates for the academic years 2022-23 and 2023-24 and confer honorary doctorate degrees on two, including a former judge of the Supreme Court of India during its 7th convocation to be held on November 5 in Dharwad.
In a press conference at KSLU in Rayapur of Hubballi on Monday KSLU Vice Chancellor Prof. C. Basavaraju said former Justice Supreme Court of India and Karnataka State Border and River Protection Commission Chairman Shivaraj V. Patil will deliver the convocation address at the convocation to be held at the Farmers Science Center of the University of Agricultural Dhar, Uwad.
University Chancellor and Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot will preside over the convocation and Law, Justice, Human Rights, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation and Tourism Minister HK Patil will be the guest of honour.
Prof. Basavaraju said that all the 4,053 male candidates and 3,663 female candidates will be awarded their respective degrees and 28 gold medals will be awarded to the toppers. These, in addition to the 150 rank holders, would be awarded letters of rank and two candidates would receive doctorates. Apart from this, 29 candidates would receive cash prizes and seven would get scholarship, he said.
Honorary doctorates
Professor Basavaraju said Andhra Pradesh Governor and former Supreme Court of India judge Justice Abdul Nazeera and Bengaluru senior advocate V. Sudhish Pai would be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees during the convocation.
At the request of prof. Basavaraju said the university has emphasized research in the field of law, which has resulted in 18 candidates registering for research. In a span of four months, six to eight candidates would receive their doctorates, he said.
The Vice-Chancellor said that special facilities are being provided to support research in the field of law, including financial assistance from the university. Meanwhile, five-year integrated courses like BA LLB, BBA LLB and BCom LLB were in high demand and many students were applying for admission to the courses, he said.
Grants were sought
About the infrastructure development in the campus, he said that the university has sought a grant of ₹100 crore for the construction of an administrative block, library, guest house and canteen and a proposal in this regard has been submitted to the state government.
Prof. Basavaraju said that the student intake has increased from 1,200 to 1,500 and various construction works are going on in the 39-gunta area of the university campus. To a query regarding the municipal councilors who are exempted from the ongoing work in the university campus, he said that they have not received any intimation from the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation so far.
