
At least seven people were killed late on Saturdays and tens were injured after the bridge collapsed on the railway in the Russian region border with Ukraine, the officials said.
The authorities said the train passengers from the Russian border town of Klimomo to the capital was derailed in the incident.
“As a result of the collapse of the bridge on the railway line, there are seven dead,” wrote Aleksandr Bogomaz, Governor of the Bryan Region on Telegram. At least 69 others were injured, including three children, quoted by AFP.
The railway operator stated that “unlawful interventions” were responsible for the accident.
Moscow Railways, a state subsidiary, said the passenger train derailed “between Klimov and Moscow due to the collapse of the road bridge range as a result of illegal interference with traffic”.
The incident occurred at 22:44 (1944 GMT) between the Pilshino and Vygonichi stations in the Bryansk region, said the railway operator on the telegram. The incident did not affect any other train operation, the company added.
Videos published on the social media showed that rescuers work on the site of a large hill of debris that covers what looked like a train belonging to the national operator of the Russian railway, while others showed that people were screaming in need.
