Up to 66 Maoist cadres, carrying a combined reward of 2.54 Crore, on Thursday (July 24, 2025) gave up in five districts of the Bastar Chhattisgarh division.
Most of them, 25, gave up in Bijapore, while 15 gave up in Dantewad, said the General Inspector Bastar Police P. Sundarraj. While 13 gave up in the Kanker district, eight and five Maoists laid weapons in the districts of Narayanpur and Sukma.
Among the cadres, one member of the Sub-Zonal Committee or the SZCM bearing a reward of 25 lakhs and four members of the division committee who are considered relatively higher in the military formation of the Maoists. Over the past 18 months, 1,570 Maoists have given up in the Bastar division, the police added.
“With the establishment of new security camps in internal regions and improving access to roads, transport, drinking water, electricity and other public social care programs, development is now getting into this wave,” said growing confidence between local communities and security forces – brought up through community police and awareness.
50,000 GBP given as initial assistance
Each member of the submitted member was provided with a check for 50,000 GBP as an initial motivation to support their start to the company. Other advantages in the government policy of surrender and rehabilitation are processed, added IG.
In an interview with journalists in Bijapur, one of the surrendered Maoists said that continuous security operations in hilly terrains also reduced the area of influence where they previously lived in relative security.
Mr. Sundarraj said that the appeal to Maoist cadres to give up violence and return to the mainstream showed encouraging results. “Giving up 66 cadres, including a member of the Committee at the State Law level, across five districts in a single day, is a strong indication that Naxal is coming to his end,” he said.
