At least one student was killed and 65 feared imprisoned under a little hand on hand after the building of the Islamic School in Indonesia collapsed‘with The province of Eastern Java on Monday, September 29, reported Associated Press.

The incident occurred in Sidoarjo, while students offered their afternoon prayers at the Islamic boarding school Al-Khoziny. The building underwent an unauthorized expansion when the tragedy hit, and reported. A local police spokesman said that the old prayer hall was originally only two stories, but was reconstructed by adding two more floors without permission to build a new structure.
So far, 99 injured students have been admitted to hospitals, some of them in a critical condition.
Most of the victims were male because the students prayed in a separate part of the building and managed to escape, the survivors said. Teachers, administrators and residents helped evacuate injured students, many of whom suffered head injuries and broken bones.
The authorities initiated the investigation of the cause of the building collapse.
Rescue
Search and rescuers continue to seek victims among the debris, although their efforts were limited by heavy concrete plates and unstable debris, Nanang Sigit said, which leads this effort.
“We were chasing oxygen and water that were still trapped under the debris and kept them alive while working hard to get them out,” Sigit said, adding that rescuers saw several bodies scattered under a little, but focus on saving those who are still alive.
Several hundred rescuers equipped with breathing equipment, improvement tools, medical evacuation kits and other support facilities continue to seek survivors.
Families of students gather in hospitals or near a collapsed building and are anxiously waiting for their children. The relatives waved when they watched the rescuers pull out the dusty, injured student from the buried hall.
