
Up to 620 farmers died by suicide in the district of Mandya in 10 years between 2015–16 and 2024-25.
This became clear during the revision with the revision of Karnataka Development Program (KDP), which took place on Saturday in Mandya.
A comprehensive presentation on various questions and programs for the District Minister of the N. Cheluvarayaswama district was presented, which was also informed about the suicide of farmers.
It turned out that the highest number of farmers’ suicide was reported in 2015–16, when 124 such incidents occurred, followed by 100 suicides in 2017–18. Since then, however, there has been a constant decline with minor changes in number, and in 2023-24 39 suicide of farmers were reported.
The authorities stated that the compensation was awarded with regard to 531 such cases.
