Nearly 6,000 acres of paddy crop were inundated by the release of 7,000 cusecs of water from the Yeleru reservoir, which reached its full storage capacity of 22 TMC at Yeleswaram in Kakinada district on Thursday.
Kakinada District Collector S. Shan Mohan and Prathipadu MLA Varupula Satyaprabha on Thursday inspected the inflow of rainwater from Rampachodavaram agency area to Yeleru reservoir.
Mr. Shan Mohan said that the surplus water had to be released from the Yeleru Reservoir despite the flooding of paddy crops in the ayacut area. He warned that the Kirlampudi, Gollaprolu and Samarlakota canal areas are likely to be affected. Irrigation and revenue authorities have been told to monitor water inflow and storage levels to prevent disruption and flooding of villages.
