Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, at the 600th day of the Gaza War, announced that the army had killed Mohammed Sinwara, the highest commander of Hamas in Gaza and the brother of the leader Hamas Yahya Sinwar.
“We left terrorists from our territory, entered the Gaza lane by force, removed tens of thousands of terrorists, eliminated … Mohammed Sinwar,” Netanyahu said the Israeli parliament.
Sinwar, called “Shadow” and “Ghost” for his secret operations, was reportedly killed by the Israeli media in an Israeli air strike near the European Hospital in Khan Yunis.
Hamas did not answer AFP’s request to confirm. And Israeli military resources, according to Sky News, said they were not yet able to confirm his death.
Key terrorist leaders eliminated
Killing Mohammed Sinwara, if confirmed, represents another hit of Hamas’s leading position. Since the beginning of the war in October 2023, Israel has demanded assassinations for several high -ranking persons, including:
Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’s political boss; Mohammed Deif, head of Hamas’s armed wing; and Yahya Sinwar, October 7 Mastermind and Mohammed’s brother.
Mohammed Sinwar was associated with the kidnapping of the French-Israeli soldier Gilad Shalita from 2006 and allegedly played a decisive role in providing his release in 2011, which recorded more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners-including Yahya Sinwar.
Talking the interviews see flickering hope
When the war stretches, there were signs of movement towards the ceasefire. The American envoy Steve Witkoff expressed optimism in Washington: “I have very good feelings to get to a long -term solution, temporary ceasefire and peaceful solution to this conflict,” Witkoff quoted.
Hamas said on Tuesday that he agreed “in principle” with Witkoff’s proposal. The group offered a 10 hostage in exchange for the liberation of Palestinians imprisoned in Israel. However, it was stopped to agree to disarm or send the leader to exile – he demanded Israel.
Israel or the USA on Hamas’s statement there was no immediate answer.
UN Boots help with US support
Tensions were escalating around the Humanitarian Gaza Foundation in the US and Israeli Gaza (GHF), which works separately from the traditional UN help system.
According to the Palestinian medical source on Tuesday, the distribution of chaotic aid left 47 injured and at least one dead on Tuesday. The head of the UN human rights for Palestinian territories, Ajith Sunghay, claimed that most injuries came from Israeli shooting.
The Israeli army denied it and said only shots were fired into the air. GHF also denied that civilians were shot and said the operations continued “without the incident”.
Mounting civilian toll
When Israel increases its offensive, the Ministry of Health of Gaza said that 3,924 Palestinians have died since 18 March. The total number of victims in Gaza costs more than 54,000, with the vast majority of civilians, according to the Run Run.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants killed 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped 250. Since then, more than 400 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza.
