Luxury London Residents Sue Over "Corrosion" at One Hyde Park
One of the most luxurious residential buildings in London, One Hyde Park, has found itself in the midst of a major controversy as some of its dwellers have taken legal action against the developers, citing concerns over "corrosion" within the building’s structure.
Located in the heart of London’s upscale Knightsbridge, One Hyde Park is a 14-storey apartment complex that boasts some of the most extravagant and expensive real estate in the world. With prices reaching as high as £10 million for a single apartment, it’s no wonder that the complex is home to celebrities, business moguls, and other high-net-worth individuals.
However, despite its opulent reputation, a group of residents has come forward to express their discontent with the building’s management company, Lendlease, citing concerns over the condition of the building’s structure. According to the residents, they have noticed signs of "corrosion" on the building’s exterior, which they claim is seeping into the apartments and causing damage to the walls, floors, and other structures within.
The disgruntled residents, who are represented by London-based law firm, Edwin Coe, are seeking an assurance that Lendlease will take immediate action to address the issue, including conducting a thorough investigation, repairing the damage, and providing proof that the building is safe and habitable.
In a statement, the residents’ lawyer, Rachel Barber, explained: "Our clients are extremely concerned about the condition of their homes, and feel that the building’s management has not been transparent about the extent of the corrosion problem. They are seeking justice and a guarantee that the necessary steps will be taken to ensure their safety and well-being."
In response to the allegations, Lendlease has issued a statement saying that they take "the safety and well-being of our residents very seriously" and that they are working to "address any concerns" raised by the residents. The company did not provide further details, however, as to the extent of the corrosion problem or the actions they plan to take to rectify the situation.
This is not the first time that One Hyde Park has faced controversy. In 2018, the building was embroiled in a scandal over luxuries that included a private cinema, a ballroom, and a "Atlantis-style" infinity pool, which were described as "wasteful" and "ludicruous" by some critics.
For the residents who are now suing the building’s management, the focus is on safety and security, rather than luxury. "We want what’s right," said one of the residents, who wishes to remain anonymous. "We want our home to be safe and habitable. We’re not asking for much, just basic common sense common sense."
The outcome of the lawsuit remains to be seen, but in the meantime, the residents of One Hyde Park are left to wonder what other secrets the building may be hiding beneath its gleaming, high-end façade.
