The 48 -hour national bunch called the Coordination Committee for the Meitei for Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) In protest against removal of the state’s name from the government, the normal life in five districts of Imphal Valley influenced the second day on Friday (23 May 2025).
All business facilities, educational institutions, government and private offices remained closed and public transport remained off the road. With the exception of medical emergencies and those trying to go to the Ukrul district to participate in the Shiri Lily festival, no other private vehicles must cross the roads.
Several women of Bandh supporters stopped the central security forces vehicles in different parts of the Bishhnupur and Thoubal districts and inserted the “Manipur/Kangleipak” safety vehicles on the windshield. Kangleipak is an ancient name manipur.
On Friday (May 23, 2025) Morning Roadside Groletable opened their stands for Andro Parking, Kongba and Khurai in the areas of Imphal East District, but Bandh supporters told them to close the stalls.
Bandh supporters forced Bandh in Uripok, Singjamei and Kwakeithel in the Imphal West district. On Thursday (May 22, 2025) Bandh’s night supporters organized a 2 km torches and raised the slogans that reported: “Manipur cannot be exterminated”. The central force staff was deployed in strategic places at all points leading to Raj Bhavan.
The Manipurg Government on Wednesday (May 21, 2025) ordered the probe to the accusation that security staff had forced the name of the state on the bus and journalists at the Shiri Lily festival. It was argued that the security forces were stopped by a state bus where the government took journalists to cover the Tourism Festival in the Ukrul district on Tuesday, May 20, 2025) to force the Directorate of Information and Employees for Public Relations (DAPR) to cover the name of the state.
The government has created a two -member committee and stated that “it will explore the facts and circumstances concerning security staff and a state road transport bus bearing media persons to cover the SHIRUI 20 manipur festival near Gwaltabi. “The Committee is dealing with outages if they exist and propose measures to prevent such a situation in the future,” he said.
The Committee, which consisted of Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar and Secretary Kirankumar Singh, was asked to submit his message within 15 days, he added.
In the middle of the outrage of the Cocomi incident, he called the 48 -hour strike from Wednesday (May 21, 2025) of midnight and demanded an apology to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhally and the resignation of the security advisor Kuldiep Singha, DGP Rajiva Singh and Chief Secretary of Prasant Kumara Singh.
“The decision to eliminate manipures from the state bus itself is anti-manipuries, absolutely questioning the idea of manipure and its historical and cultural identity,” said Cocomi Convenor Khuraijam Athoub. “The inhabitants of manipure demand to know what powers to be taken. It should be clarified to the public within 48 hours,” he added.
The Shiri Lily festival takes place after a gap of two years, when the state, ravaged by ethnic clashes between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo, limp back to normal in the middle of the President’s government, which was deposited in February after the resignation of N. Biren Singh as the main minister.
