For the first time this year, 47 of the total 688 mandals in Andhra Pradesh experienced severe heat wave on Wednesday.
A severe heat wave (red alert) is declared when the maximum temperature at the station exceeds 40 °C and its deviation from normal temperatures is more than 6.4 °C. So far, severe heat waves have been reported in less than 10 mandals in the state. On April 19, nine mandals reported severe heat waves, while seven mandals experienced similar conditions on April 21.
