As many as 4,500 participants – young and old – took to the Kozhikode beach on Sunday (February 8) for the 16th Calicut Half Marathon (CHM), organized by students of the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM-K).
The event transformed the iconic beach into a vibrant sea of runners united by sport, community spirit and social purpose. This was marked by Olympian Jinson Johnson.
Held under the theme ‘Run to Remember – Alzheimer’s and Dementia Awareness’, the 2026 edition aimed to spark informed conversations about cognitive health, Alzheimer’s, dementia, caregiving and the vital role of community support. This theme resonated strongly with participants and reinforced the marathon’s tradition of mixing endurance sport with meaningful social causes.
The race included three categories: a 21 km half marathon (timed), a 10 km run (timed) and a 3 km dream run (untimed). The marathon brought in total prize money worth ₹4 million. The supporting partner was the Indian VKC.
The event concluded with an award ceremony attended by Anandakuttan Unnithan, Dean (Programmes), IIM-K, VKC Razak, Director General, VKC, representatives from KVR Honda and senior officials of IIM-K.
