As a delegation of ministers led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge is set to participate in the nationwide PM Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme for the distribution of houses built by the Karnataka Slum Development Board (KSDB) to be set up off Mantur Road in Hubballi.
While Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan and KSDB Chairman Prasad Abbayya have made many visits to the venue and held a number of meetings with Congress officials and workers, officials of the District Administration and the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation are monitoring the arrangements through several committees that have been constituted for the purpose.
A total of 42,345 houses constructed by KSDB in various districts will be symbolically inaugurated and distributed by the Chief Minister at a function at Mantur Road where a huge pandal has been erected for the purpose.
Roads leading to the venue have been paved and main roads and important junctions in the city are lined with banners, banners, posters and Congress flags.
As about two million people are expected to attend the event, a huge pandal has been erected on 10.5 acres of land.
Keeping in view the arrival of huge number of vehicles, parking arrangements have been made opposite the pandal. Cardboard cutouts of prominent political leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddaramiah, DK Shivakumar, Zameer Ahmed, Prasad Abbayya and others were installed at the venue.
Hublin darwad police commissioner has made elaborate security measures to prevent any mischief during the program.
On Friday, Commissioner of Police N. Shashikumar visited the spot to give last-minute instructions to the police officials. He told reporters that coordinated efforts are being made to ensure smooth running of the event. Additional forces from other districts will be deployed as a precautionary measure, he said.
KPCC secretary and former NWKRTC chairman Sandanand Danganavar said six different parking lots have been earmarked as 1,600 buses are expected to bring people to the programme.
24 LED screens have been set up for the convenience of the public. Arrangements were also made to distribute food packets, water bottles and buttermilk packets.
