
Indian women’s boxing team put in an outstanding performance (Photo: BFI) NEW DELHI: The Indian women’s boxing team put up an outstanding performance at the 2026 Asian Boxing Championships to top the medal table with 10 medals, including four golds. It was a dominant performance, with every member of the team coming home with a medal, underscoring the strength and consistency of the team led by coach Santiago Nieva.The gold medal run was started by Minakshi (48kg) who secured a convincing 5-0 win over Mongolia’s Nomundari Enkh-Amgalan.

Priya (60kg) added another top finish with a solid 3-0 win over North Korea’s Won Un-gyong, while Arundhati (70kg) sealed India’s fourth gold with a 4-1 win over Kazakhstan’s Bakyt Seidish.India also got two silver medals through Jaismine (57kg) and Alfiyan Pathan (80+kg), both finishing runners-up after strong campaigns. Along with the four bronze medals, this gave the women’s team a total of 10 medals, making them the most successful side in the competition.
Mixed results in the men’s division
While the women dominated, the men’s team had mixed results but still showed promise. Vishvanath Suresh (50kg) impressed with an impressive 5-0 win over Jordan’s Huthaifa Eshish to reach the final. After a 4:1 semi-final victory against Thailand’s Sakda Ruamthamova, Sachin (60 kg) also advanced.However, several others failed in their matches. Akash, Lokesh, Narender and Harsh Choudhary lost their matches against tough opponents from Uzbekistan, China and Tajikistan.India claimed the highest medal tally of the tournament and looked set to finish strong, with better chances in the men’s final.
