4-5 Indian athletes are yet to get Japanese visas before the acclimatization camp

Several members of the 74-member Indian athletics team are yet to get their visas, though most of them have arrived in Japan for a short acclimatization camp near Tokyo ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

It is learned that around 4-5 athletes are yet to get their visas, though the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) officials are hopeful that the matter will be resolved soon. The AFI is likely to approach the government to help the athletes get visas.

Athletics events at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games begin on September 23.

An official source said that VFS, a leading visa and passport outsourcing company, insisted that applications should be made at the points where passports are issued.

“We hope it will be resolved soon,” the source said.

Under these circumstances, there is a possibility that athletes with visa delays may have to spend less time at the acclimatization camp or join other team members directly in Nagoya.

Meanwhile, the remaining athletes have reached the University of Tsukuba, near Tokyo, where they will train until September 20 before arriving in Nagoya two days before the start of the athletics events.
