On the occasion of Dasara, the state government has announced a festive bonanza to Singareni coal mine workers with an average bonus, the company’s profit share, of ₹ 1,53,912. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka announced that each permanent employee of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) will receive an average profit share amount of ₹ 1,53,912.
Speaking to reporters along with Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Mr. Vikramarka said on Tuesday (October 13) that 38,737 permanent employees would benefit from the decision. In addition, 29,717 contract workers would get a bonus of ₹5,500 each. He said the government decided to distribute 34% of Singareni’s profits to the workers and continued the practice.
Singareni Collieries Company Ltd has made a net profit of ₹1,754 crore this year, of which ₹596 crore would be distributed among the workers as their profit share. Stating that the government was equally committed to the welfare of permanent employees and contract employees, he said the government was also committed to fulfilling the dream of the workers to own a house. He told the officials to identify the areas belonging to Singareni which were not yet mined and prepare suitable layouts for housing.
It will be recalled that of the 5,774 acres returned by Singareni to the revenue department, 4,500 acres were distributed as patta on the land to the poor during the previous Congress government. He said the Singareni management has been asked to speed up the process of issuing land pattas to the eligible beneficiaries on the remaining 1,250 acres of land.
Regarding the unresolved cases of dependent employment, the deputy minister said that they would be resolved within 15 days. Officials have been told to complete the pending formalities of around 250-300 dependent employment orders and issue appointment orders to eligible candidates in the next 15 days. He said between 136 and 170 pending cases involving workers’ name changes would be reviewed from a humanitarian perspective.
To reduce the inconvenience for workers seeking medical disability, Mr. Vikramarka said the Singareni management has been told to hold medical board meetings on fixed days every month at all district hospitals in Singareni areas. Workers will no longer have to travel to Kothagudem for the process. Medical examinations would be conducted locally and the process would be expedited to benefit as many eligible workers as possible.
The Deputy Chief Minister also announced plans to upgrade hospitals in the Singareni area to corporate hospital standards. The aim was to ensure that ordinary workers have access to high quality medical care at Singareni Hospitals instead of being dependent on private hospitals.
He said Singareni missed opportunities to participate in auctions involving around 141 coal blocks, which limited its business expansion, adding that closure of some existing coal blocks also affected production and revenue. With around 14 blocks now closed, he stressed the need to provide new blocks to replace them. He mentioned Tadicherla-II, Koyagudem Block-III, Manuguru PK Open Cast-II dip-side block and Naini were among the blocks being eyed as part of the company’s efforts to expand operations.
