The Thiruvananthapuram city police on Monday registered a massive seizure of nearly 300 kg of ganja from Pappamancode.
The District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) nabbed Afzal, a native of Karakulam, when he was allegedly trying to transport contraband in a car. The ganja was found hidden in several packages wrapped in tape.
According to official sources, the team intercepted Afzal while he was waiting to hand over the consignment to another person. Acting on intelligence, police surrounded the suspect and took him into custody before completing the delivery. The car was also impounded.
The accused and the seized contraband will be handed over to the Karamana police to register the case and complete other formalities.
The accused is known to have been involved in other narcotics trafficking cases. He is currently being interrogated in detail to uncover other connections in the drug racket and to identify other people involved in the operation.
