30 new traffic patrol bikes introduced to strengthen traffic management in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Traffic Police in collaboration with the Hyderabad City Safety Council (HCSC) on Saturday 18 July commissioned 30 new traffic patrol bikes to strengthen traffic management and improve emergency response across the city. The bikes were flagged off by Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar in the presence of Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D Joel Davis and senior officials.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sajjanar said that the introduction of 30 Avenger patrol bikes, procured with CSR contributions worth ₹1.6 million, has increased the city’s operational fleet of patrol bikes to 80 from the existing 50. The additional vehicles would enable faster response to traffic jams, traffic accidents and vehicle breakdowns in Hydera.

Highlighting the growing traffic problems in Hyderabad, Mr. Sajjanar said that the city has a vehicular population of around 95 lakh people with an additional 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles being registered every day. He noted that there are about 2,500 to 3,000 workers working in two shifts to manage traffic, so public participation and corporate support are essential.

He said the HCSC had deployed 120 traffic marshals in the past six months to assist the traffic police. He also spoke about the ‘Spandana’ initiative, an all-women patrol launched two months ago to provide immediate relief to women and girls in need. Currently, 10 Spandana vehicles are in operation and plans are underway to expand the service to every police station with electric four-wheelers, he added.
