West Bengal has witnessed an increase in “non-standard” and “false” drugs over the years, and according to government data, 2,988 drugs “not standard quality” were declared between 2023-24. This raised questions about counterfeit medicines, public health and enforcement effectiveness.
In the party Rajya Sabha, Bharatiya Janata (BJP), Samik Bhattacharya, questioned the Ministry of Health and family care for “CDSCO and market value of market drugs and drug control” and drug control) and drug control “.
The State Minister of Trade Unions for Health and Family Care Anupriya Patel said in response that 1.06 150 drug samples have been tested in the last year and 604 companies for the production, sale and distribution of false/falsified drugs were initiated.
Senior physician and public health administrator Subarna Goswami said that the regulatory system for the quality of drugs in the country has weakened over the years. “Pharma sector is one of the most important profit sectors and there is no price limit in most drugs in India. Once the market is free of charge, companies use low -level products to produce and raise profits,” Goswami.
He also said that India had only a few test laboratories, which led to the news delay. Goswami suggested that all government hospitals at the district level have mini testing laboratories for faster and more efficient drug testing and quality control.
Mrs Patel said that in 2022-23 it was found that 3,053 drugs were in West Bengal and in the previous year it was found under the standard of 2,545 drugs. In the years 2022-23, the state was declared false drugs and 379 was declared disturbing in the previous year.
Production has stopped
Mr. Bhattacharya also asked if any steps against Paschim Bang Pharmaceutik were taken to distribute expired drugs, including the death of a new mother after the allegedly expired Ringer Lactate since the company.
The company was ordered to stop production after various discrepancies were found during the inspection, the government said in its response.
“The risk -based inspection was carried out at M/S Paschi Banga Pharmaceuticals from 04.12.2024 to 06.12.2024 a team composed of CDSCO officials and a state -inspection authority, West Bengal. ”
The tragic death associated with Ringer’s lactate led to great controversy, while the government claimed the “medical negligence” of doctors who said the lactate of the ringtones was of poor quality. Paschim Banga Pharmaceuticals was after similar deaths on the black document by the Karnataka government, but its use continued in Bengal. After the death of Ringer’s lactate, raids throughout the state were regularly carried out.
