The 28-year-old pharmacist was arrested on Wednesday for issuing regulations and providing treatment for patients in his clinic-cum-Farmacy in the village of Venkatasamudram near the city of Ambur in Tirupatura.
Health officials identified an arrested pharmacist as N. Ajith Kumar, a native of Tirupatura. Initial questions have revealed that in the last few years it has been offering patients in the village of medical treatment without any professional qualification. He transformed his rented house into a clinic and a pharmacy to serve patients in a distant village. On average, 35 to 50 patients waited daily out of treatment.
A special medical team led by B. Yogesh, a medical officer at the Taluk Government Hospital in Ambur, carried out a surprising control of space after the complaints of the population. The team included a doctor, pharmacist and drug inspector.
During the search, officials found numerous medical instruments, recipes and letters heads at the back of the pharmacy. The clinic also discovered used syringes, capsules and other medical equipment.
The clinic and pharmacy were sealed and the team confiscated medical equipment including the apparatus of blood pressure, stethoscope and syringes. The accused is reportedly the first perpetrator. The case was registered by the Oomerabad Police and was subsequently filed in the Tirupattur. Investigations are underway.
