Twenty-eight Communist Party of India (Maoist) cadres carrying a cumulative reward of ₹89 lakh on their heads surrendered to the police in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Tuesday (November 25, 2025).
“The ‘Poona Margem: From Rehabilitation to Reintegration’ initiative achieved significant success in Narayanpur district today where 28 Maoist cadres with a cumulative reward of ₹ 89 lakh decided to leave the path of violence and return to the mainstream,” Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj said.
The IG said that over 512 Maoist cadres in the Bastar range, which covers seven districts including Narayanpur, have laid down their arms in the last 50 days. It is also one of the three districts in the country — the other two are Sukma and Bijapur, also in Bastar — that are most affected by left-wing extremism, according to the Union Home Ministry.
Nineteen of the 28 cadres who surrendered are women. They also handed over three rifles to the security forces.
Mr. Sundarraj described the development as the result of sustained, coordinated and determined efforts of the local community, administration, police and security forces of the district.
“The Poona Margem Initiative is steadily becoming the basis for lasting peace, growing public confidence and sweeping change in the Bastar region,” said Mr. Sundarraj.
