Kerala has already recorded the country’s highest conversion rate of expressions of interest into investments, with 23.16% of investment proposals at the Invest Kerala Global Summit in February this year turning into actual investments, Industries Minister P. Rajeeve said in a statement on Monday. In the case of projects for which land has been allocated, the conversion rate is 37%.
A total of 449 EOIs worth ₹1.81 crore were signed in IKGS. Around five million job opportunities were offered through these projects. Most of the EOIs were signed in sectors such as tourism, food processing, electronic component manufacturing, IT/IT-based industries, wood processing industries, rubber products manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, Ayurveda and wellness. Of these, the construction of 104 investment projects was started. An investment of ₹ 35,463.07 crore and 50,483 jobs are being created in the state through projects that have already started construction, he said.
Mr. Rajeeve said the government has focused its immediate attention on converting expressions of interest and investment pledges into actual investment. To this end, expressions of interest were classified based on the value of the investment. Agencies like Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), Directorate of Industries and Commerce and Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) were responsible for their implementation. The Department of Industries has set up special mechanisms for speedy provision of necessary facilities including various permits. A monitoring system has also been established to review the project at various levels and at regular intervals. Expressions of interest worth up to ₹100 million were pursued through the Directorate of Industries and Commerce. KSIDC acts as the nodal authority for expressions of interest of ₹100 crore and above. Under the leadership of KINFRA, investments in industrial parks and other places are also monitored.
