Three people were killed in the 21st US attack on an alleged narcotics vessel in the eastern Pacific on Saturday as the Trump administration eyeballed a cartel that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says is operating as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO).
According to AFP, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said: “The Cartel de los Soles, along with other designated FTOs, including Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa cartel, are responsible for terrorist violence throughout our hemisphere, as well as drug smuggling into the United States and Europe.
“@Statedept intends to designate the Cartel de los Soles as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). This group, led by the illegitimate Nicolás Maduro, has corrupted government institutions in Venezuela and is responsible for terrorist violence by other designated FTOs and drug trafficking to the United States and Europe,” Rubio wrote on X.
If the Pentagon figures are to be believed, the strikes have killed over 80 people since the beginning of September, in what he says is a legitimate attempt to prevent the flow of drugs into the United States.
(This is a developing story. More to come)
