The Hyderabad City Traffic Police continued its crackdown on traffic offences, with 212 offenders facing trial in drink-driving cases from Abids, Chikkadapally, Saifabad and Gandhinagar traffic police limits. The hearing was held on October 18 at the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Nampally.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, Traffic, 187 accused were fined ₹3,100 while 25 others were sentenced to imprisonment and fined a total of ₹99,900. The court imposed an aggregate penalty of ₹6,79,600 in these cases.
In addition, 147 motorists were fined ₹1,100 each for using mobile phones while driving, taking the total to ₹1,61,700. The seven minors who were caught driving the vehicles were also fined ₹2,100 each amounting to ₹14,700.
The Transport Department said the continued enforcement is part of efforts to reduce accidents caused by reckless driving and increase public awareness of the importance of road safety and compliance with traffic laws.
