As many as 21 districts in Karnataka recorded “large surplus” pre-monsoon rainfall, characterized by a departure of 60 per cent of normal rainfall or more, between March 1 and April 4.
According to the district pre-monsoon pattern 2026 of the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC), Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Vijayashinak, Kannada, Ballari, Chikshinagara, Ballari Rural areas of Shivamogga, Davangere, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, Chickballapur and Bengaluru during this period precipitation.
Four districts – Hassan, Bengaluru South, Bengaluru Urban and Kolar – experienced excess rainfall. Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Raichur districts fell normally. Only one district, Yadgir, experienced rainfall deficiency during this period.
The taluk-wise KSNDMC data shows that 133 taluks received large excess rainfall, 43 taluks received excess rainfall, 33 taluks received normal rainfall and 21 taluks received deficient rainfall during the period.
Rainfall is considered normal when it is between +19% and -19%, deficient when it is between -20% and -59%, heavy when it is -60% or less, excessive when it is between +20% and +59% and very excessive when it is +60% or more.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain/thunderstorm with gusty winds at one or two places over coastal Karnataka districts for the next three days.
It has predicted that light to moderate rains and thundershowers with gusty winds are likely to occur in North-Interior and South-Interior Karnataka.
The Met Department has predicted partly clear skies for Bengaluru city and its surroundings, with rain and thundershowers likely in the evening and night.
The maximum and minimum temperature are likely to be around 32°C and 22°C respectively.
