The state government has given special consideration to Idukki district in issuing title deeds, said Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine.
Speaking at the district-level launch function at Cheruthoni Panchayat Hall on Thursday, Mr. Augustine said that due to Idukki’s complex land issues, legal acquisitions are fast-tracked. “The problem of excess land in Mankulam has been resolved and the first phase of title distribution for the area is starting from this festival,” he said.
The minister also highlighted that 238 families in Muthamma tribal settlement of Chinnakkanal village will receive their title deeds during the event. Apart from this, progress is being made in issuing deeds to families in Gandhi Nagar settlement in Cheruthoni.
According to officials, a total of 2,077 title deeds were distributed on Thursday. These were titles issued under the 1993 Rules, 1964 Rules, CHR (Cardamom Hill Reserve) 1993 and the Forest Rights Act.
While the distribution of another 3,000 title deeds was earlier suspended by the Kerala High Court order, officials confirmed that the new court order will allow their distribution within a short time. As of 2016, the government has distributed a total of 43,613 title deeds in Idukki through 13 separate title deeds festivals.
Udumbanchola MLA MM Mani, Devikulam MLA A. Raja, District Collector Dineshan Cheruvatt, Sub-Collector Anoop Garg, Deputy Collector Athul Swaminath and ADM Shyju P. Jacob among others attended the event.
