
Live Updates from the 2026 Parliament Session: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to the vote of thanks to President Murmu’s speech in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Modi will address the lower house of parliament at 5 pm, even as the spat between the finance ministry and opposition benches continues for the third day.
The riots occurred after opposition members were constantly promoting slogans during question hour. The Lok Sabha saw repeated adjournments as Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to cite an article that cited former army chief MM Naravane’s unpublished “memoir” on the 2020 India-China conflict.
On Tuesday, seven Congress MPs and one CPI(M) member were suspended for the remainder of the budget session, which ends on April 2. The suspension followed scenes of disorder, including attempts to climb onto the secretary-general’s desk, tearing up papers and throwing them towards the chairman.
In the meantime, both houses of parliament will continue to discuss the “motion of thanks for the President’s speech.
In the Lok Sabha, the motion was moved by Sarbananda Sonowal and seconded by Tejasvi Surya, with 18 hours allotted for the debate.
In the Rajya Sabha, BJP MP Sadananad Master proposed the vote of thanks.
