The Mysuru City Police, which has planned elaborate security arrangements for the New Year 2026 celebrations, has issued an instruction to end all planned events to usher in the New Year by 1:00 am.
A set of guidelines issued by the Mysuru city police commissioner’s office said that the public, hotels, resorts, clubs, service flats, housing societies, malls and other organizations must obtain prior permission from the city police headquarters for all New Year events to be held on the night of December 31.
A statement issued in this regard by the city police said that shops, houses and establishments must install CCTV cameras in their premises to help in investigations if necessary.
The public was also informed that the use of sound systems requires a mandatory police permit. If permitted, these sound systems should be operated within legally permitted decibel limits.
The use of DJ systems is prohibited. “Special monitoring teams have been formed and violation of these will require legal action,” the police warned.
“Obscene dancing, vulgar behavior, consumption of intoxicating substances, gambling and harassing the public on roads are strictly prohibited. Legal action will be taken against violators,” the police said.
Consumption of alcohol in vehicles parked on roads, parking lots, bypasses and highways is prohibited, the statement said.
Posting provocative, misleading or fear-mongering content related to New Year celebrations on social media will also attract legal action. The public is advised to be aware of fraudulent links and digital scams spread through social media or messaging platforms.
Balloons are prohibited
The city police also banned the sale and use of balloons filled with gas using illegal pressure cylinders.
“Strict action will be taken against the offenders,” the police said. The warning comes after a cylinder carrying helium to fill balloons exploded near the Mysuru Palace, killing three people.
