According to the notification for local body elections 2025 issued by the State Election Commission (SEC), the posts of mayor in Kochi, Thrissur and Kannur corporations have been reserved for women in the next term.
In the case of district panchayats, the post of president in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad was reserved for women. The allowance is reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) category in Ernakulam district panchayat.
The SEC on Wednesday drew attention to the reserved posts of chairmen in local bodies.
In 87 municipalities, the state government issued a notification reserving the post of chairperson for women in 44 (including SC Women), six for the SC category (including three for SC women) and one for the ST category. SC women in Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta, Ottapalam in Palakkad and Ferokke in Kozhikode will get the post.
The seat was reserved for SC category at Karunagappalli in Kollam, Kayamkulam in Alappuzha and Koyilandy in Kozhikode. The post of chairman in Kalpetta municipality was reserved for the ST category.
In the 152 block panchayats, the post of president is reserved for women in 67 blocks, for SC women in eight, for SC women in seven, two for Scheuled Tribe (ST) women and one for the ST category. The post of president has been reserved for SC women in the following block panchayats; Chirayinkeezhu block panchayats in Thiruvananthapuram district, Sasthamkotta in Kollam, Elandoor in pathanamthitta, Bharanikkavu in Alappuzha, Mala in Thrissur, Mannarkad in Palakkad, Vandoor in Malappuram, Koduvally in Kozhikode.
The post of President has been reserved for the SC category in the following block panchayats; Velllanad in Thiruvananthapuram district, Oachira in Kollam, Ilamdesam in Idukki, Koovappadi in Ernakulam, Vellangallur in Thrissur, Malampuzha in Pallakd and Kuttipuram in Malappuram.
The post of president was reserved for ST women in Mananthavady block panchayat in Wayanad and Parappa in Kasaragod, while the post in Kattappana block panchayat, Idukki, was reserved for the ST category.
In 941 grama panchayats, the post of president was reserved for women in 417 panchayats, 46 for SC women and eight each for ST category and for ST women.
